GIEN fondue/gourmet/snack plates - 1970's/'80s
These fondue plates come from the French earthenware (faience) manufacturer Gien, founded in 1821 by the Englishman Thomas Hall. He established the factory in a former monastery along the Loire River. Gien gained renown for its decorated tableware, including dinner services featuring the family crests of prominent European households.
This particular design showcases a different side of the brand: practical tableware in warm tones, likely dating from the 1970s to the early 1980s. The glossy glaze highlights the division into six compartments, which keep sauces and side dishes separate—perfect for fondue or gourmet dining, as well as for serving an assortment of small bites.
Available in ochre yellow, olive green, and dark brown, with six plates per color. The plates are sold in sets of 6, and the price listed is per set.
