Rare antique French talking plate Saint Amand - 1900

What a find: this beautiful and rare French "talking" faience plate from the Champêtre series by Saint Amand & Hamage (Nord).

There is a charming story behind this plate. For one thing, it depicts a cyclist; cycling was a huge hype around 1900, so the design cleverly tapped into the trend of the era. But there is also a question printed at the bottom of the plate: "Where is my companion?" This question was intended to spark conversation during meals, and with a little imagination, one could find the answer within the design itself. Can you spot the cyclist's companion?

It is in lovely condition, so if you have others like it, you could certainly use it as a breakfast plate; personally, however, I think it looks wonderful displayed on the wall alongside other decorative plates. And a guaranteed nice game to play with your guests, see if they can spot the cyclist's companion.
