Vintage WMF Crystal Craquele Cocktailshaker, Mid Century (1935-1965)
What an incredible find: an iconic vintage cocktail shaker from the renowned, high-quality German brand WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik).
This particular model, distinguished by its beautiful organic structure, is a masterpiece of mid-century design. It is an absolute showstopper for any serious barware collector or enthusiast of high-end vintage design.
The Art of Craquelé Glass:
The most striking feature of this three-piece shaker is its clear, heavy crystal glass, which showcases a continuous craquelé (crackle) effect. This texture was not applied after the fact; rather, it was created during the artisanal glass-blowing process by exposing the red-hot, molten glass to a controlled thermal shock (cold water). The result is a unique, intricate pattern that refracts light brilliantly and provides a wonderfully tactile grip while shaking.
History & Dating:
Since 1853, WMF has been celebrated for its innovative, high-quality metalware. This piece bears the official WMF logo (used between 1935 and 1965) stamped on the inside of the cap, alongside the letters "NS." This stands for *Neusilber* (nickel silver or German silver) a highly durable, premium base alloy that served as the perfect, long-lasting foundation for a luxurious silver plating. The cap fits securely and includes the original, integrated strainer.
