Antique Jean Haviland plates - set of 5 + 1
Give your dinner a stylish vintage finish with this beautiful antique set of six porcelain dessert or cheese plates. Whether you serve a generous slice of cake or an assortment of cheeses on them, these Bavarian beauties are guaranteed to steal the show.
Each plate features a stunning, slightly autumnal illustration of grapes, walnuts, pineapple, and other red fruits. They also boast a beautifully scalloped edge, with traces of gold gilding still visible here and there.
This dinnerware has a fascinating history. The back bears the rare early mark of Jean Haviland (Bavaria). Jean was the grandson of the founder of the world-renowned, upscale French porcelain house Haviland & Co. in Limoges. However, early in the last century, Jean decided to strike out on his own; he left the French family disputes behind to establish his own porcelain factory in Bavaria, Germany, in 1907. Although he later Germanized his name to Johann for the export market, this set still bears his original French name—Jean—which he used until 1924.
One plate has a small chip on the border, so this one is free. The plate can still be used.
